Progress

Here are examples of my explorations of my photoshop work using acrylic paint. I have experimented with different techniques, such as increasing the opacity of the paint ( using vegetable glycerol) and layering different layers of colour to create a glowing effect. Another technique demonstrated in the second and third slide was only using a palette knife, then in the fourth slide is a monochromatic version and the fifth slide is a sketchbook standard paintbrush attempt. The works above range from A5 to A2 in size. Many are unfinished, this is because they were expemints with techniques that I will use moving forward towards a final piece. I would like to take the successful elements of each process and combine them into a developed and refined piece. the elements I would like to bring forward are as follows, the glowing opacity of the first painting, the texture and solidity of the second, and the dark expressive background and hand forms of the last two pieces.

During a difficult moment concerning the challenge of painting four hands, I explored different options of compositions that would still reflect my concept. I feel my concept has refined to a more direct exploration of body dysmorphia, inspired by my own experiences during the recent lockdown. However after painting the work below I decided to still continue to explore my photoshop source material. This is because I feel these images could work as a sequential artwork, but as I would like to create a stand alone piece, I didn’t feel the idea worked.
