Coming to the later stages of this project, I am trying to find a way to develop the work I have been creating so that I can convey my theme in a more accessible way.
After spilling an ashtray, I began to create forms in the ash and matches. After drawing a spine like depiction, I began to think about the most poignant elements of a living space conveying depression. I came tot he conclusion that a dirty bed is the most striking imagery. This then developed into the idea of sleeping somewhere you aren’t comfortable, and the positions your body twists and turns into. I then concentrated on the imagery of a twisting spine inspired by the original drawing.
Further developing this idea, and my previous collage works. I created myself out of dirty washing lying in my bed. The result is quite eerie, but not as visually stimulating as I had intended. Although the concept I feel is strong. I will experiment further with clothing and collage. Possibly taking inspiration from Lee Lozano’s work.
