Sands malleable nature, and the temperance of structures created using sand inspired my final piece for the conceptual project. I aimed to provoke an interaction, to entice the viewer to touch, and change the work. Leaving behind them a memory of their reaction. As well as incorporating memory as a theme by capturing peoples interactions with the material, the form of a sandbox has a connotations to childhood memories.
If I was to continue the project I would experiment further with scale and see how creating a larger sandpit would link better to the viewers childhood, a larger version could make the fewer feel smaller, almost like an infant playing in a sandpit. This would hopefully change peoples reaction to the piece. I plan to experiment with the space I exhibit the work in, inspired by my crit I think an urban sauce could also change peoples reaction to the piece.
Over the course of time that I had the sandpit in the studios, people created sand sculptures and even destroyed other peoples sculptures. The temporary nature of peoples interactions with the piece is exactly what I was looking for, with the memories of my colleagues interactions with the work only lasting until the next person interacted with the sculpture.
when looking at the sculpture on the podium, visual similarities to the work and and brain became apparent. The podium is the pillar holding the sandpit much like a neck supports the head, the sand box itself being the skull holding the sand (brain), forever changing, malleable and learning
