Conceptual project

Continuing my exploration of physical memory, a term i’ve coined to describe a material or inanimate objects ability to retain a memory. This could be a commonly walked path in the grass, a footprint in the sand or a well used handrail. Nearly everything over time shows the way in which it has been effected by its surroundings.

The goal of this project was to find a material that provoked interaction, while also retaining a memory of said interaction. My initial concepts involved more solid and permanent materials such as concrete. I envisioned a boot or footprint in a paving stone, exhibited like a painting Jung on a wall. My ideas quickly formed dependant on the materials I used. Water would show impact through ripples and waves. Sponge would hold a memory for a second before it quickly forgets. Ice would briefly show a memory of a warm touch slowly melting it.
