Working organically, not trying to create anything in particular, but simply experimenting with form, provoked new ideas and showed me a more natural way of working. Creating sculpture from drawing and drawing from sculpture, in a continuous process allowed me to become inspired by creating, and work in a more active and free way. Thinking of drawings as more three-dimensional, while being less representative and more reacting to what is in front of me, opened new possibilities and working styles. This is a style I have never worked in before, and initially I found hard but after seeing the outcome I feel this is a technique I could explore further.

final day

Experimenting with different methods, only using my fists, or certain materials changed the way I worked with form. Moving into working with clay, I found myself interested by balance, and weight. working towards creating a visually jarring sculpture, that played with and questioned gravity, I created the sculpture above. I am happy with the outcome but feel that scale would increase the effectiveness of the piece. When working with weight and balance, scale can be difficult to experiment with, especially using a material like clay. the sculpture seen above had broken under the pressure of its own weight after 24 hours and would require extensive experimentation with different materials, especially when introducing variable such as scale.
